Boryana Rossa Receives NYSCA Grant for Project Initiated at TTTfellows Art & Science Residency

The Interactive Arts Laboratory (InArts Lab) of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts is pleased to announce that Boryana Rossa, artist, professor, and Associate Chair in the Department of Film and Media Arts at Syracuse University, has been awarded a New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) grant for the project “Aphrodite Conception.” The project originated during the TTTfellows: Art & Science Residency 2024 Fall in Corfu, where Rossa collaborated with molecular biologist Dr. Heidi Hehnly-Chang. Developed within the framework of Rewilding Cultures, co-financed by the European Union, the residency provided a unique environment for interdisciplinary experimentation, facilitated by Dalila Honorato and Adam Zaretsky.

On behalf of the Ionian University, we are pleased to announce that Kim Doan Quoc will be developing research as part of a mobility grant awarded through the Rewilding Cultures project. Selected from over 80 applicants, Kim is one of eight artists and researchers chosen by a panel representing all partner organizations of the Rewilding Cultures network. This grant supports transdisciplinary exploration and critical practices across Europe, and we are proud that Kim’s work will contribute to this vibrant and timely initiative.

TTTfellows: Art and Science Residency II, March 18th to 29th, 2024, featured artists developing projects that examined artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, germline gene editing, and zombie studies, in the islands of Othonoi and Corfu, merged art and technology to critique ectogenesis and its entanglement with state biopolitics, highlighting ethical and aesthetic dimensions of these practices. Artists Clarissa Ribeiro and Robert Lisek participated as fellows, with Dalila Honorato and Adam Zaretsky serving as art and science coordinators for the program.

During 2023-2025, the RC network partners will issue 8 grants every year, each with up to 1400 EURO support (incl. possible taxes). The form of support (e.g., fee or reimbursement) will be discussed individually. Artists, researchers and technologists can apply for mobility or mobility-related work support which destinations go beyond the RC network partners. The proposed activity needs to happen in 2025. We welcome applications from professionals in all stages of their careers. The application deadline is March 31st at 22:59 CEST / 23:59 EEST.

The TTTfellows II – Artificial Insemination - successfully concluded its sessions from March 1st to 15th (online) and continued on-site from March 18th to 29th, 2024, on Corfu and Othonoi Islands. The program, detailed on the Ionian University residencies' website, focused on exploring Artificial Insemination, In Vitro Fertilization, Germline Gene Editing and Zombie Studies. It engaged a select group of participants, including Robert Lisek, Clarissa Ribeiro, Adam Zaretsky and Dalila Honorato, whose diverse backgrounds and expertise enriched the discussions and practices.
