The Interactive Arts Laboratory (InArts Lab) of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts is pleased to announce that Boryana Rossa, artist, professor, and Associate Chair in the Department of Film and Media Arts at Syracuse University, has been awarded a New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) grant for the project “Aphrodite Conception.”
The project originated during the TTTfellows: Art & Science Residency 2024 Fall in Corfu, where Rossa collaborated with molecular biologist Dr. Heidi Hehnly-Chang. Developed within the framework of Rewilding Cultures, co-financed by the European Union, the residency provided a unique environment for interdisciplinary experimentation, facilitated by Dalila Honorato and Adam Zaretsky.
This initiative was supported by EU funding through Creative Europe, enabling hybrid-arts collaborations that bridge artistic practice, scientific research, and technological innovation.

“Aphrodite Conception” brings together mythology, reproductive technologies, and contemporary bio-art methodologies. Rossa and Hehnly-Chang began forming the conceptual and aesthetic foundations of the work during their residency at InArts Lab and partner venues, including Corfu Tech Lab, Corfu Aquarium, and BiHELab. The project will unfold through a performance, a video work, and a publication, expanding on the speculative and critical dialogues initiated in Corfu.
InArts Lab warmly congratulates Boryana Rossa and celebrates this important recognition of work that emerged from the TTTfellows residency and continues to grow internationally.
