Myrto Papadopoulou

Myrto Papadopoulos has spent nearly two decades creating long-form visual narratives across Europe and Central Asia that explore identity, belonging, and the evolving relationship between people and land. Rooted in cross-disciplinary research and immersive fieldwork, her work critically examines historical consciousness, collective memory, and cultural resilience. Her projects often unfold over years, blending original photography, video, social practices, archival materials, and text to challenge dominant narratives and offer alternative perspectives. Engaging with diverse communities, she explores how land shapes cultural identity and personal histories, bridging past and present. Her work also navigates the intersection of fact and fiction, questioning how stories are constructed and perceived over time. Her work has been commissioned and published by Smithsonian, The New York Times, Time Magazine, and National Geographic, among others. She has presented at TEDx Thessaloniki and Athens, the EU Parliament, Princeton University’s Global Seminar in Athens, and more. She was an iMEdD Fellow (2019, 2021), supported by the Niarchos Foundation, and has been nominated for the Prix Pictet, the Magnum Foundation Grant, and the Leica Oskar Barnack Award. https://myrtopapadopoulos.com/
