About the Thesis
Spectrasomatics artistically investigates different DIY combinations of color therapy, sound healing, and somatic movement, using the chakras as an organizational system to explore the space between personal wellness and art. Through a range of techniques, these healing modalities are remixed and reconfigured into a series of artworks spanning performance, video art, costume, sculpture, and installation. The thesis develops the art-life concept of the Spectrasomatics methodology, examining how it can be applied while situating the work in relation to contemporary artistic practices and healing methods associated with the research.
About the Candidate
Anna Laura Hafner is a multidisciplinary artist creating experimental work across painting, sculpture, installation, theater, video, and performance. Using multimedia techniques and recycled materials, she combines multiple elements to create immersive art experiences. Through mythic symbolism, vibrant colors, and textures, her work develops emotional and abstract narratives addressing identity, gentrification, climate change, home, and greed within the Anthropocene. Her previous work has evolved into experimental theater and video incorporating soundscapes, puppetry, dance, masks, costumes, durational performance, painting, and printmaking. Her MARes thesis explores a new direction by bringing together therapeutic art and self-healing, expanding on a chakra-inspired ritual performance first developed in 2016 and advancing the conceptual Spectrasomatics methodology through hybrid digital art-life practices.
