The Winter School in Hybrid Arts Methodology concluded its 2025-2026 edition at the Athens School of Fine Arts Annex in Hydra, after an intensive week dedicated to interdisciplinary research, artistic experimentation, and collaborative learning. Co-organized by the Interactive Arts Lab of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts – Ionian University on behaf of the Master of Research in Hybrid Arts (MARes) and the Third Sculpture Laboratory of the ASFA, the program brought together faculty, postgraduate students, and invited practitioners for a concentrated series of seminars and workshops.
From November 24 to 28, participants engaged in a structured curriculum combining theoretical inquiry with hands-on experimentation. The schedule featured:
-
Hybrid Arts Methodology & Media Aesthetics — Dalila Honorato
-
Hybrid DNA Isolation Wet-Lab & Ethics in Bioart — Adam Zaretsky
-
Sound Design I & II — Emmanouel Rovithis
-
Media Archaeology: Hauntological Approaches & the Occult — Ioannis Zannos
-
Drawing DNA — Vassilis Diamantis
The program also incorporated participant-led workshops and discussions, including sessions on microbiome performativity, collective mapping, zine-making, MRI data, human traffic, cognitive patters and analogies between Edo-period communication and contemporary social media. Fieldwork, collaborative research exercises, and shared evening activities further strengthened the immersive character of the week.
Students from ASFA and MARes contributed actively to the learning community, transforming the Annex into a temporary research residency where dialogue and experimentation continued beyond the formal schedule. The Winter School was carried out within a framework of Social Ethics, emphasizing respect, accessibility, and collaborative responsibility.
The 2025 program demonstrates the growing role of hybrid arts methodologies in bridging artistic practice with science, technology, ecology, and critical theory. The organizers thank all faculty, students, and collaborators who shaped this year’s edition.
