The new Master of Research (MARes) in Hybrid Arts Program commenced this week, marking the beginning of its inaugural academic year. Running throughout 2025, this specially scheduled first year welcomes a select group of art-practice based research students. Further details about the research interests of MARes 2024-2025 students will be announced in the coming weeks.
The program offers a unique curriculum that bridges critical theory and practical skills, led by a distinguished faculty of art researchers and practitioners. MARes features core modules including Art Research Methods, taught by Dr. Adam Zaretsky and Dr. Emmanouel Rovithis, exploring transgressive modes of inquiry; Media Archaeology, led by Dr. Maria Chalkou and Dr. Dalila Honorato, examining posthumanism and intersectionality; and Project Sustainability, taught by Dr. Tania Tsiridou, Dr. Iakovos Panagopoulos, and Dr. Daphne Dragona, focusing on creating sustainable artistic practices. Students will benefit from individual mentoring throughout their studies, working closely with faculty members including, besides the above referred faculty, Dr. Ioannis Zannos, as they develop their major research projects and dissertations.
A highlight of the program is the Winter School, scheduled for March 31 to April 4, 2025, offering an immersive week-long intensive in-person training experience. The program also collaborates with two important international events, the Audiovisual Arts Festival in May in Corfu, GR and the conference Taboo-Transgression-Transcendence in Art & Science in September 2025 in Ljubljana, SI, which offer further opportunities for students to show their work.
The next application period for the academic year 2025–2026 will be announced in April 2025 by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, part of the Ionian University’s Faculty of Music and Audiovisual Arts. For inquiries about the program, please contact the Secretariat at: mares@ionio.gr.
