Collaborative Project will focus on Game Audio and Sound Design Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program to Support Projects at Universities in Greece

Corfu, December, 2019

Ionian University / Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts was selected by the Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program (GDFP) to host an scholar from Canada to work with on a collaborative project on Game Audio, Sound Design and Augmented Reality Audio. Professor Andreas Floros will lead the project, together with Prof. Bill Kapralos, a Fellow from University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Ontario, Canada.

The project will focus on sound for interactive applications, a topic of vital importance that is under-researched and often ignored in practice. Leveraging the expertise of both the host’s and the fellow institution on interactive sound design, including game sound, audio-only games and sound art, the project will derive a robust educational and research framework on interactive sound applications and advance this area with respect to education and research. Project deliverables include the design and development of an online course on interactive sound, multiple teaching sessions and supervising/mentoring of Ionian University students.

The Ionian University project is one of 37 projects that will pair 38 members of the Greek and Cypriot academic diasporawith higher education institutions and collaborators in Greece to work together on curriculum co-development, collaborative research, graduate and undergraduate research training and mentoring activities in the coming months.

The GDFP, now in its third year, is designed to enable brain circulation between Greek universities and universities abroad, strengthen capacity at the host institutions, and develop long-term, mutually-beneficial collaborations. It is funded by the Stravros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in collaboration with the Fulbright Foundation in Greece. A total of 87 Fellowships have been awardedsince the program’s inception.

Fellowships match host universities with scholars and cover the expenses for project visits of between 14 and 90 days, including transportation, a daily stipend, materials allowance and health insurance.
