Digital Culture & AudioVisual Challenges

This research is a small part of a more extensive study conducted as part of postgraduate studies at EAP and concerns the r ole of digital media and multimedia practices in the contemporary exhibition space, focusing on how technology contributes to the transformation of the visitor experience and the reshaping of curatorial practice. The integration of interactive multimedia, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) applications, audio guides, QR codes, digital touch interfaces and online platforms allows the development of new forms of cultural mediation, enhancing participation, personalization and experiential reception of exhibition content. At the same time, the pedagogical and cognitive dimensions of the digitally supported exhibition experience are highlighted, as well as the role of digital technologies as tools for informal learning and active audience engagement.

The paper critically approaches the possibilities and limitations of the use of digital media in exhibition design, highlighting issues related to information overload, accessibility, maintaining the autonomy of the exhibit and the balance between physical and digital experience. Through a review of relevant literature and contemporary curatorial practices, it is argued that the effective integration of digital media requires a targeted and critically designed curatorial discourse, which places the visitor at the center, without weakening the aesthetic and cultural value of the artwork. The aim of the study is to contribute to the scientific dialogue around the digital transformation of exhibition practices and to highlight the prospects of multimedia applications as tools for enhancing the contemporary exhibition experience.
