Short Description:

Introduction to the history of Digital Art. Basic principles of methodology and research for the contribution of the Moving Image to contemporary art and research models that expand the boundaries of audiovisual arts.

The research field is the analysis and monitoring of the changing forms of video-image art in relation to the revolution in electronic and digital imaging that took place in the last fifty years and visual creative process.

Objectives:

The aim of the course is the theoretical training of the students in general with regard to contemporary art and in particular the Art of the Moving Image, the knowledge of the language code of the object and the creation of an artistic consciousness. Familiarity with the medium and the technical issues that will arise. The creative process from the conception of an idea to its realization as an artistic work, the collaboration between students in different areas of the creative process

Intended Results: the creation and presentation of the work at international Art festivals and art spaces.

Syllabus:

The course is oriented towards visual art and the wider art historical context, with particular reference to the technological appropriation of the 1960s, the critical view that governed the 1970s, the post-modernist concerns of the 1980s and the aesthetic principles that were shaped in the 1990s and 2000s. The consequences of the internationalization of video artists at the turn of the new millennium are also explored alongside concerns of post-colonialism and the impact of the influence of the Internet to the present day.

Teaching and Learning Methods:

Weekly assignments. Presentations of research and thinking paths (mindmaps, moodboards, lapbook) Production of theoretical texts to support the digital project.

Autonomous artistic creation in stages and final product production through the process of group presentation and feedback.

Application exercises will also be carried out in a digital computer environment with painting and drawing software (2D, 3D), the integration and combination of image and sound materials (digital and analog format). The ultimate goal is for the student to become familiar with the design of persons, objects and spaces and with the basic rendering of movement and sound through the sequence of still images in a digital environment.

ICT Usage:

Positive equipment requirements for students are the possession of a camera, laptop and video projector. Extra equipment VR, AR, 3D printer.

High definition digital video cameras.
Lighting and sound techniques.
Video and audio editing software.
Digital imaging and motion graphics sequencing software (2D, 3D).
Video projectors, screens, speakers and live streaming, VR, AR.

Evaluation Methods:


Presentations of research and thinking paths (mindmaps, moodboards, lapbook).
Production of theoretical texts to support the digital project.
