This research proposal explores how artists and writers define, analyse and investigate Digital Extractivism and its links to traditional extractivist endeavours. The works analysed are largely comprised of film and video installations produced by seven artists and collectives from Europe, the United States and Latin America encompassing a period of 9 years, approximately. My intention is to attempt to map shifting perceptions and attitudes towards technology within this timeframe through the production of art situated within speculative filmmaking and tactical media within the rapidly developing field of data extractive and surveillance strategies. Key theoretical and technological developments that inform the artworks analysed will be situated on a timeline to better help
understand the shifts and what is driving them. The artists and researchers analysed are Shoshana Zuboff, Jussi Parikka, Ulises Mejías and Nick Couldry, Vladan Joler, Kate Crawford, Matteo Pasquinelli, Liam Young, Manu Luksch, Colectivo Tres, Colectivo Trimex and Disnovation.org
