Digital Storytelling is a versatile genre that is derived from the combination of elements such as images, audio, photographs, and videos, that are placed within the context of a narrative. As a process, it blends traditional art forms with the media of the digital age.
This course presents the theoretical, technical, and methodological perspectives in the field of new media. It explores the structural and conceptual strategies of directing and screenwriting across a spectrum of digital platforms. Theories of narrative form, visuals, and sound will form part of the course with an emphasis on the function of visual forms.
Students learn how to use multimedia tools to produce short stories in a linear or nonlinear format that can be shared on different types of digital devices, uploaded to the internet, or can be made available through traditional means of exposure.
During the semester they learn the basic principles of story dynamics, dramatic composition, and also different approaches to storytelling. Within this course, participants learn the digital tools that are necessary to create works of visual storytelling, experimental narratives, and applications on the internet.
During the exams, students submit one digital artwork that they carried out during the semester.
