This course delves into the concept of "poetics" in the contemporary creative process. At the same time, it explores how the notion of "poetry" interacts with modern artistic fields within digital culture. The course introduces students to electronic literature and poetry while also examining and developing methods and design processes as they relate to the creation of creative discourse and text in general—whether composed of words, images, or other raw materials as essential compositional elements.
Within this framework, the relationship between "poiein" (creating) and digital arts is examined, showcasing how poetic expression emerges through various expressive applications. Additionally, key aspects of the research process in art and the diverse methodological approaches accompanying it are discussed. Through this process, artistic practice related to text is developed by analyzing methodologies and practices applicable to both the production and analysis of an artwork.
The course aims to explore and produce mature multimodal works in the field of electronic poetry and literature, as well as other digital art forms where text, writing, and reading play a central role. Additionally, it encourages students to familiarize themselves with fundamental principles of contemporary methodological approaches in art, understand different artistic perspectives, explore their interdisciplinary connections, and acquire a strong theoretical and practical foundation in art—specifically in relation to textual content and its interaction with new media.
The course structure includes both theoretical and practical components, which run concurrently. The theoretical section consists of lectures, discussions, and presentations designed to familiarize students with the poetics of new media. Through examples from various fields (e.g., electronic literature, poetry, web art, video art, interactive installations, animation), techniques, approaches, and methodologies related to research and design processes in each context are analyzed.
The practical component consists of a series of complex creative projects developed throughout the semester. These projects integrate knowledge of text use in combination with contemporary technology.
