For the 12th consecutive year the Audiovisual Arts Festival will take place in Corfu from Monday the 28th of May to Sunday the 10th of June.

The program is co-organized by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts and the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, incorporating a wide variety of educational and artistic activities.

This year, the Festival has the pleasure of hosting works by the internationally renowned British artist Rob Kesseler and the Honorary Doctor (Department of Audio and Visual Arts) Eija Liisa Ahtila.

Also, this year the Festival will host the Honorary Degree Commencement Ceremony of Eija-Liisa Ahtila on the 5th of June, 12:00, Ionian Academy.

The program of the 12th Festival includes a) exhibitions of selected audiovisual projects of undergraduate students, performing arts, installations of postgraduate and doctoral students and invited artists, b) the organisation of the Digital Culture & AudioVisual Challenges International Conference, c) the Summer School in Hybrid Art and d) Concerts in various venues in the city of Corfu/Kerkyra.

All events are sponsored by the Municipality of Corfu, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu, the Ionian University, as well as private art institutions such as the Polytechno and the Garage 21.

The Festival hosts for first time an exhibition of Performing Art. Selected works from postgraduate students will be presented.

Exhibitions

Special guest of the 2018 Festival is the British artist Rob Kesseler, whose works will be shown at the Municipal Art Gallery from May 29 to June 10.

Selected undergraduate projects are presented in various venues of the city of Corfu. The autonomous exhibitions cover the wide range of audiovisual media and are organized in the thematic sections: Photography, Script/Storyboard, Virtual Environments and Games, Sound Installations, Multimedia Applications, Graphic Design, Video / Animation, Installations. The projects that will be presented were implemented in undergraduate courses of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts.

At the same time, there are exhibitions of postgraduate and doctoral students: Video Installations, Interactive Applications and Interactive Facilities, which integrate selected projects of postgraduate students that have been implemented during the last 3 years of its operation. Postgraduate Diploma Theses will also be presented in an independent exhibition.

For the first time this year the Festival 2018 will expose projects of Performing Arts. The selected projects were produced by students of the postgraduate course.

International Conference

The International Conference on Digital Culture & AudioVisual Challenges will be held in Corfu (Greece) June 1st-2nd 2018, and is hosted by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts (Ionian University). Deadline for submitting extended abstracts: until April 8th, 2018.

Corfu Summer School in Hybrid Arts

The Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University organizes the Corfu Summer School in Hybrid Arts. Composed by a series of intensive theoretical and/or practical seminars, tagged as courses and activities, the Corfu Summer School in Hybrid Arts program aims to integrate both Greek mythological inspiration connected with the Ionian Islands and the (almost) unlimited possibilities of new media.

Concerts

A series of concerts with an emphasis on electroacoustic music will take place in both closed and outdoors areas of the city of Corfu/Kerkyra. The program is co-organized by the Department of Music Studies and the Department of Audio and Visual Arts. The program of the concerts will be announced later.

Workshops

Workshop entitled “Research Methodology” will take place during the Festival by Maria Georgoula.

Screenings

Screenings of student works, The OX by Giorgos Nikopoulos, portugese animation and Eija-Liisa Ahtila works will take place during the Festival.
