The research investigates two different perceptions of urban nature - the view through a smart city app, and the view by local inhabitants. Can bringing these perspectives together provide better engagement with and care for the landscape? The research unfolds a digital twin Trees AI to make it accessible, and treats the stories that people around the trees tell as equally important data, to ultimately create new sorts of participation between people and technology.

Sujata Majumdar

Sujata Majumdar is a visual artist and practice-based researcher. Her artistic endeavour emerges from the need to fuse perspectives. Raised in the UK, with Indian heritage, and living in The Netherlands, she originally trained in Physics and has since worked in Information Technology across various industries. Her artistic practice began with Photography and her hybrid art practice has evolved over the past decade. Her current research interest, since working in geospatial for two years, is how to reduce the potential gap between a digital twin view and a local inhabitant’s view of nature in the urban environment. Sujata is also co-founder of multi-disciplinary forum Tickbird&Rhino bringing together specialists in conversation, as a route to uncovering new knowledge. Her work is held in several collections including the Amsterdam City Archive. She has been a speaker at the Centre Pompidou, TodaysArt, DCAC-2021, FEMeeting, and artist in residence at TU Delft and Waag.
