The MARes in Hybrid Arts program (Department of Audio & Visual Arts, Ionian University) invites you to the public online defense of the Master’s thesis Doublespeeches by Nathalie Dubois Calero, supervised by Adam Zaretsky, on Thursday, 19 February 2026 at 10:00 (Athens time), via Zoom. The project is a bioart approach to human identity through the microbiota and the concept of the human holobiont, raising speculative questions about behavior. The defense is open to the public, and all interested students, researchers, artists, and members of the community are welcome to attend.

Participation in the online festival Waves of Light of the National Opera, in collaboration with PPC, of ​​the video-performance Just Transition? | Δίκαιη μετάβαση; by students of AVARTS Postgraduate Studies Program "Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age" under the guidance of Associate Professor of AVARTS, Hari Marini. The Greek National Opera’s online festival Waves of Light, in collaboration with the PPC and curated by Giorgos Koumendakis, features the first series of site-specific performances inspired by the Megalopolis Steam Power Station. The Master of Research in Hybrid Arts (MARes) at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University announces the first public release of Human Germline Gene Editing is Bioart: An Open Letter to Lulu and Nana by bioartist Adam Zaretsky, Visiting Professor in the MARes program published online on January 1, 2026, by the Bioart Ethical Advisory Kommission (BEAK) in Simplified Chinese, English and French.

The Animation Festival ICONA 2025, which took place from November 13th to 16th 2025, exclusively online, by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, was successfully completed. The festival program included both professional and student competitions. A total of 316 films from 100 countries were screened. We are pleased to continue the MSG Talks, an online platform where MARes postgraduate students share their ongoing research and artistic experiments with the broader academic and artistic community. ICONA FESTIVAL 2025 is organized and promoted by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University. ICONA 2025 is taking place online from November 13th to November 16th 2025. The Festival culminates on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 17.00 CET, with the award ceremony for the winning films. 

The first talk in the series will be given by MARes student Eeva-Liisa Puhakka on Thursday, October 23, at 4:00 PM (Athens time). Eeva-Liisa will present the latest developments in her project, “Currents of Smell and Signal: From the Barents Sea to the Beyond”, exploring smell as a sociocultural indicator and translating olfactory experiences into multisensory narratives.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University is pleased to announce the opening of the 18th Audiovisual Arts Festival, which will take place in Corfu from Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 18. On Thursday 08/05/2025 at 19:30 at the People's Garden (Gallery of the Municipality of Central Corfu) the opening of the 18th Festival of Audiovisual Arts (8 May - 18 May 2025) will take place.

The Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) Evaluation and Accreditation Council has accredited the Postgraduate Study Programme of Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Era of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University as fully compliant to the Standards for Quality Accreditation of Postgraduate Study Programmes of the HAHE and to the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) for study level 7 of the National and European Qualifications Framework.

The AV-school, the seminar and workshop series of the Audio-Visual Arts Festival, will take place at the Public Central Historical Library of Corfu, from May 12 to 16, 2025. This year’s theme, "Intersections", invites participants from all backgrounds who are interested in contemporary art and new technologies.

The Organizing Committee of the Taboo - Transgression - Transcendence in Art & Science (TTT) Conference is delighted to announce its sixth international gathering, taking place from September 9-13, 2025, at Kino Šiška in Ljubljana, Slovenia. A new film by Serafim Parsaloglou Marathias, student at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, TTTlabs BioFeral.BeachCamp (BFBC): New Repro-Zombie Studies (NR-ZS) – Undead Bioart / Bodyart on the Beach, offers a closer look at a unique art camp held from April 5-14, 2024, at the Annex of the Athens School of Fine Arts on Crete.

The aim of the Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2024 is to present the best from the field of animation from all around the world. The festival also aims to preserve and help develop the cultural heritage of animated film, contribute to creation of new films, provide ground for potential international co-productions and encourages dialogue between professionals, filmmakers and the public.
