PhD research topic:
This PhD thesis investigates the interpretive possibilities of space as an entity in contemporary audio-visual art; that is to say, whether the space affects the interpretation given to each work of art by viewers. However, the viewer should perceive before reaching the stage of interpretation. Consequently, the research focuses on understanding, by means of theoretical and experimental methods, the spatial perception in contemporary audio-visual works, where it is required familiarity not only with the theories which have been developed by artists on the space issue but also with the theories which have recently been developed by neurobiologists on the issue of spatial perception both of the visual and the auditory cortex. The survey results are presented with the creation of an artistic installation, where the visitors are confronted, via interactive methods, with their spatial-perceptual abilities.
